Morgan reveal the stunning EVA GT at Pebble Beach

The Morgan Motor Company will be launching a new four-seater coupé at Pebble Beach in August. While the final look of the new EvaGT is still under wraps, we know it will use a developed version of the bonded aluminium chassis of the Morgan Aero SuperSports – and will “take its inspiration from the British sports saloons of the early 1950s”. Think Bristol 400 series and Frazer Nash BMW 328 – but, of course, computer design technology (followed by hand-finishing) will enable minimal shut-lines, hidden wipers, flush door handles and sharp creases to deflect air over the car’s surface.

The young, dynamic team at Morgan has committed itself to bringing out a new model every two years, targeting fresh market segments with – for example – electric sportscars. However, current thinking is that the Morgan EvaGT, a car aimed at young families, will be powered by a twin-turbo BMW 3-litre straight six. This will give 306bhp and 400Nm of torque which, mated to a 6-speed sport automatic or 6-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, should see the 1250kg car claim 0-62mph in around 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 170mph. Or at least, such is the plan.

The first 100 cars of a limited production run are scheduled for mid-2012. Pricing has not been announced but Morgan says it will be ‘competitive’ for a car in this class. A £5000 deposit will be required to reserve an allocated build slot.

In a recent Daily Telegraph Motoring Section there was a big article on the Morgan Aero and Roadster, and Morgan generally, quoting the well known remark of Sochiro Honda "in the future there will be half a dozen car companies - and Morgan".

In the Daily Telegraph an article on a new 200mph Car called a Splinter, made of wood!. Interestingly they said what Morgan have been always saying: "Wood has a higher strength-to-weight ratio than aluminium or steel, and it posseses a versatility that makes many types of construction techniques possible".

The Fabulous Morgan Aero 8 was recently featured in the Auto Express magazine, and received an excellent review, saying that it showed "more britishness" than the new Bentley GTC. When compared to the £130,000 Bentley, Auto Express said "It`s BMW engine complements the Aero 8... It`s our winner... It's one of the most rewarding sports cars we're likely to drive this year."

Richard Hammond, the well known presenter from Top Gear has recently purchased a New Morgan Roadster for himself, and an Aeromax Coupe.

The Morgan Motor Company were delighted to announce recently, that the Morgan 4/4 will have been in production for 70 years. This is the longest continuous run of any production car in the world and is obviously cause for celebration.

Steve Cropley from AUTOCAR " A new Morgan is always a huge moment for me, and this was an absorbing drive....my impressions of the car (which started on a bullish note) were continually revised upward. For a while I even found myself dreaming of a lifestyle which allowed me to drive a Morgan Roadster every day".

Jason Barker in the November issue of EVO " ...if it's a traditional Morgan you've set your heart on and you were wavering since V8 production ended, waver no longer because the V6 model is a worthy successor and a character in it's own right."

Autocar "Think Morgan and you think open roads, country lanes and picnics in fields. In that environment the Roadster makes sense. For one it's very quick. Then there's the sound. Get near the 6700 rpm cut-out and 24 valve V6 emits a glorious howl ."

Andrew Frankel in the Sunday Times "In the Roadster....by driving smoothly, thinking ahead and understanding the idiosyncrasies of your car, you can go faster, stay safer and at the journey's end experience a sense of pride you'll not find in a modern car that does it all for you....like any Morgan it is built entirely by hand in a factory that first started producing Morgans in 1910. Go there and it is like a time warp- a world of chisels, planes and lathes where cars are lovingly created by the hands of craftsmen, not expertly assembled by the mechanical arms of robots.....it made me feel good.It indulged and involved me in a way that few modern cars could, and while the fun it provided was slightly perverse and mildly masochistic, fun it undoubtedly was."

Charles Morgan interviewed by Ken Gibson  "Morgan dont want to be too big for our boots. We will always be a small player, one of the car world's Davids but with the ability to make genuinely interesting coach-built cars".

Morgan announce the new Lightweight Roadster, that has been designed purely for rhe racetrack, to compete in the "Morgan Challenge Series". This brings race and track day action within the reach of the enthusiast.
